Oily or soiled controllers

Problems with oily or soiled gas are common abroad, although this problem occurs occasionally in Germany in connection with gas from fuel stations for vehicle tanks or also tank cylinders.

Unfortunately there is no way of recognising the quality of the gas you purchase, when swapping the cylinders or filling your tank/cylinder at the fuel station.

Soiling mas result from evaporation residues such as olefins, paraffin and other hydrocarbon compounds that enter the gas during production along the logistics chain. These oil substances are carried from the liquid gas cylinder into the vaporised gas flow as aerosols (micrometre-sized liquid drops) and are then deposited in the gas pressure controller systems, hoses and pipes or valves.

Pressure controllers in caravans meet the requirements of the standards DIN EN 12864 (single controllers) or DIN EN 13786 (single and switchover systems). All standards describe a pressure controller that needs to be designed so that it cannot be opened without causing permanent damage to the parts or seal.

In practice this means that this controller cannot be repaired or cleaned. No guarantee claims can be made for oily/soiled controllers because the damage is due to the gas quality.
Only specialists may replace a controller, ideally a G607 expert. After modifications to the gas system (e.g. replacement of a controller), the controller system must be checked for leaks before being used again; this must be entered into the G607 testing certificate.

In this case, please feel free to contact one of our service partners or our mobile service technicians. You will find addresses here.

To prevent oily/soiled gas in the future, we recommend fitting a new controller, and also replacing the high-pressure hoses, as well as installing a suitable gas filter.

Truma has a gas filter that has been specially developed to filter the above-mentioned aerosols. Thanks to an efficient, replaceable filter cartridge, it filters 99 % of all oily particles.

Our gas filter fits all wall-mounted Truma pressure controllers and can be retrofitted easily and quickly. It is fitted between the pressure controller and the high-pressure hoses to protect the intake side of the controller. This gas filter is also suitable for fillable tank gas cylinders.

    • Guten Tag Herr Wersebe,
